meat loaf
Sunday we went to an interesting little dinner party hosted by our friends Will and Heidi (who is an amazing knitter and fiber artist). It was called the first annual "Loaf Off" and everyone was supposed to make a meat loaf to be eaten and judged.
Scott and I used a classic recipe from the Joy of Cooking, and we had a fun time making it. First we had to go to a few thrift stores to find a ring shaped cake pan. Scott found an excellent heavy steel wok and a really cool vintage Pendleton western wear shirt that looks really good on him. see.... here he is, seasoning the new wok in his new shirt.
Anyhow, here's our entry in the Loaf Off...we won third place. It's shaped in a ring, and the center is full of potatoes and shallots.

when Miles said "loaf off" I was really hoping for a couch sitting contest, preferably with 80's sitcoms, malt liqour, and drooling. Oh well...
yep, instead there was just a disgusting amount of meat. actually, my favorite one was made of seitan and it tasted like stuffing and it was yummy. the one that actually won was covered in bacon.
Yeah, but the bacon one was super tasty. The only real bad part, was we had no leftovers...loafovers?
yeah, well that's how bacon is...tasty.
You're making me HUNGRY! That was a brilliant idea. I was surprised how good seitan was! I made a vegan Vietnamese pho a few months ago, and boy was that tasty. Mmmm Mmmm.
nice loaf, and shirt!
the copy I have is from 1997, so no beaver, just game birds, rabbit, buffalo, boar, ostrich and emu. i'm surprised there's no squirrel. more people probably eat squirrels than they do emu's.
woah! the veggie in me is quivering a little bit...but what i do love is that shirt ;) i just picked up a few of those beauties at the thrift for my mister too!! don't they look so cute in them? congrats on 3rd place!
